Eastern Mountain Return Policy in 2024
Eastern Mountain Sports allows new, unused items with original packaging and receipt to be returned for merchandise credit within 28 days of purchase. The exceptions for this are online purchases returned via mail, which will be refunded through the original payment method.
Clothing should have original tags still attached. If returning by mail, you will be required to fill out EMS’s return form. Worn, damaged, or clearance items are non-refundable.
Does EMS Offer Free Returns?
If returning an item by mail, shipping fees are non-refundable, so you as the customer will be responsible for paying them. Otherwise, there is no fee or deduction for returning an item, as long as the item is returned within 28 days of purchase, unused, unworn, unwashed, and in its original packaging.
How Long Do You Have to Return Items To EMS?
You have 28 days from the date of purchase to return the unwanted item for a refund. Refunds are given only in merchandise credit, which doesn’t expire. EMS does not offer cash refunds, except in the cases of online purchases returned by mail.
Can You Return Items Without a Receipt?
Receipts are required for returns. If you are an EMS Rewards Member, representatives can look up receipts from your purchases if you happen to lose your original receipt. Returns without a proof of purchase will not be accepted.
If you received an item as a gift, a gift receipt is required to return it.
How Can You Return Items To EMS?
You can return an item to Eastern Mountain Sports two ways: by mail and in-person.
Returning by Mail
You can return items to EMS via mail or in person. If returning an item through the mail, you are required to fill out a Return Form that can be downloaded and printed out from EMS’s website. This form must be included in the box with the unused, unworn, unwashed merchandise in its original packaging.
The original receipt or web invoice is required, as well as the packing slip downloaded from EMS’s website.

A store merchandise credit will be issued as the refund method for your return, with the exception of online purchases returned through the mail, which will be refunded in the original payment method made to purchase the item.
- If you surpass the 28-day deadline for returning an online purchase through the mail, you will be refunded in-store credit
EMS suggests using UPS or USPS insured mail, which includes tracking information for your package.
In-Person Returns
Regardless of the EMS location from where you purchased the item, you can return an unwanted item at any East Mountain Sports throughout the country, whether you purchased the item in-store or online.
Take the item to the returns counter or customer service desk to process your return. All returns must be accompanied by an original receipt or web invoice.
In-person returns are refunded as store credit, whether you purchased the item online or in the store.
Are There Any Restrictions to Returning Items?
Worn, damaged, or clearance items – including items sold “as-is” – are non-refundable. Items missing the tags or original packaging are also non-refundable, and all returns missing the original receipt won’t be accepted.
If you are an EMS Rewards Member and you lose your receipt, a store associate can look up your recent purchases – including receipts – in your account.
The exception to the original payment method for online purchases refunded by mail is PayPal: online items purchased through PayPal will be refunded in-store credit.
How Long Do Returns Take?
In-person returns happen immediately, the refunds in the form of store credit. If mailing your return, it can take up to 30 days to process your refund, whether it’s store credit or original payment method with a debit or credit card.
Because of COVID-19 and the increased volume of returns, it may take longer than 30 days for your refund to be processed.
